City of Tawas City – Ordinance to Amend the Zoning Ordinance

The City of Tawas City Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 6:00 pm to recommend adoption of an ordinance to amend the Zoning Ordinance to the City Council. The public hearing will be held at the Tawas City Hall at 550 West Lake Street, Tawas City. Written comments may be sent to PO Box 568, Tawas City, Michigan 48764-0568 prior to the meeting. The proposed amendment is as follows:  Amend Section 2.02 (Definitions) to add a definition of kitchenette; amend Section 3.09 (Accessory Buildings & Accessory Structures) to delete the statement which disallowed corrugated metal siding as exterior building materials and to require that all detached accessory buildings be no greater than 1,200 square feet rather than only those used for parking private motor vehicles. Amend Section 7.11 (Hotels & Motels) to require that hotel/motel rooms used as long-term rentals have kitchenettes.
