The 2023 Strength in Community Award was awarded to the City of Tawas City. Over the last Few Years, the Tawas City Council and Planning Commission have made decisions that have positioned Tawas City to offer services and programs that aren’t typically available in other areas of our community. Tawas City has provided a spot for Quota Club of Iosco County to develop a musical playground, which is one of kind in Michigan. They created a dive team, offered free concerts in Town Square this past summer, have provided space for the development of the Veterans Recognition plaza. Tawas City reconstructed its pier in Shoreline park which offers spots for day docking. Shoreline Park is also the only place with EV charging stations in the area that are open to the public. Tawas City is currently building a pathway to learning next to the Tawas City library that will encourage children to learn in a fun and unique all -inclusive outdoor environment. They have also achieved the “Essentials: status in the MEDC’s Redevelopment Ready Communities program for its efforts in establishing a streamlined development process for those wishing to invest in the community. There are only 12 communities in the State of Michigan to receive this recognition.
