Property Tax Collection Information
The City of Tawas City collects both summer and winter property taxes on behalf of the City and several local taxing authorities.
Summer Tax Collection
Summer tax bills are mailed on July 1 each year and include taxes for the following entities:
- City of Tawas City
- State Education Tax
- Tawas Area Schools
- Iosco County General Operating Millage
Summer taxes are due by September 30. A 3% penalty, plus 0.5% interest per month, will be added to all unpaid summer tax balances after the due date.
Winter Tax Collection
Winter tax bills are mailed on December 1 each year and include special voted millages for:
- Ambulance Services
- Medical Care Facility
- Commission on Aging
- Iosco County Transit
- Iosco-Arenac District Library
- Intermediate School District (ISD)
Winter taxes are due by February 14. A 3% penalty will be added to all unpaid winter tax balances after the due date.
Delinquent Taxes
Unpaid summer and winter taxes may be paid to the City Treasurer through February 28. Beginning March 1, all unpaid taxes are transferred to the Iosco County Treasurer as delinquent taxes for collection.

Summer Tax Deferment
Qualified taxpayers may be eligible to defer payment of summer taxes until the winter tax collection period. Residents interested in applying for a deferment should contact the City Treasurer’s Office before September 30.
Payment Drop Box
For your convenience, a secure drop box is available for check or money order payments. The drop box is located off Mathews Street at the entrance to the parking lot behind City Hall.
